What is Pachyderm Party?

We make noise sometimes called 'improvisational music'.  The abundance of bass instruments gave rise to the name of the group.

But is it rock or jazz or ...?

Being as there's not a whole lot of other kinds of music that have improvisation, most folks that listen to pop / rock / alternative music might consider Pachyderm Party to be jazz.  Also, we have saxophones, and anything with saxophones is jazz, right?

Basically, if you listen to a lot of jazz, then Pachyderm Party is not really jazz.  If you are not a jazz listener, then you'll probably think we're a jazz band.  We don't care, as long as you can make it to the shows and buy our CDs.  Or you can just give us a lot of money and we probably won't bother you.

How? (The Process)

All of Pachyderm Party's recordings are made live at the Wombat studio, there are no overdubs.  The digital multi-track master is mixed, edited and mastered (digitally, of course).  Each CD contains selections from many sessions.

Ordinarily, we don't actually 'rehearse' like a normal band, although sometimes there is such a large backlog of recorded material that we end up having sessions that are not recorded.  Sometimes, we run out of tape.

Where can I hear Pachyderm Party?
